Chris Elmore, MP for Ogmore, has joined with UK Says No More to raise awareness of safe spaces which are available for people experiencing domestic abuse in the constituency.

UK Says No More is working with a number of pharmacies across the UK to ensure there are safe spaces in their consultation rooms for people experiencing domestic abuse. This includes Boots UK, Superdrug pharmacies, Morrisons pharmacies and independent pharmacies across the country.

Those wishing to access the safe space only need to follow those steps:

· Walk into any participating pharmacy in the UK.

· Ask at the healthcare counter to use their Safe Space.

· A pharmacist will show you to the Safe Space. Which will be the consultancy room.

· Once inside, you will find displayed specialist domestic abuse support information for you to access, to make that call or access Bright Sky safely.

Chris Elmore, MP for Ogmore, said:

“Covid-19 has shone a light on domestic abuse. When many of us were told to stay at home we knew we would be safe and with loved ones. But for some of us being locked up in our house meant living with someone who is abusive and violent. We must redouble our collective efforts to ensure everyone experiencing domestic abuse has a Safe Space to visit.

“I applaud all the businesses in Ogmore who have signed up to provide this refuge for people. It’s times like these that we truly find out the good in our communities. I hope as many people as possible see this support and access it when they need it. People facing domestic violence can also call Refuge on 0808 2000 247.

“Moving forward we will need to rethink the services that we provide to keep people safe. Covid has taught us that more of the same is not good enough. I know that the Welsh Government is doing all it can to provide people with access to support. Be it the Live Fear Free helpline, who can be called on 0808 80 10 800, or supporting our police to tackle domestic abuse they are truly finding new ways to move Wales forward to a safer future.”
