Joint Statement on Developments at Ford, Bridgend

Commenting on the developments at Ford, Bridgend, Ogmore MP and AM, Chris Elmore and Huw Irranca-Davies, released the following statement: “We are bitterly disappointed at Jaguar Land Rover’s decision to bring an early end to its contract with Ford Bridgend for the production of petrol engines beyond 2020. This adds new urgency to the ongoing work with unions and management, supported by Welsh Government, to identify new workstreams and future investment for Bridgend. We call on the UK Government to urgently intervene in this situation. If it is the case, as we suspect, that the production of these engines could be relocating to Wolverhampton following a "sweetheart deal" with direct support

In the afternoon, everyone then had the opportunity to spend some free time around central London before heading back to the constituency. I hope everyone who came along had a fantastic tim

The “Dying to Work” charter was created by the Trade Unions Congress (TUC) and asks businesses to guarantee that they will not impede any individual who wishes to continue working when diagnosed with a terminal illness. Chris Elmore, MP for Ogmore, has blasted Welsh Secretary, Alun Cairns MP, and Transport Secretary, Chris Grayling MP, for failing to respond to the concerns raised by 22 South Wales MPs. The group of Welsh Labour MPs wrote to Mr Cairns and Mr Grayling on 22nd August 2017 to demand that the UK Government invest in Welsh rail infrastructure following the scrapping of plans to electrify the Great Western Mainline west of Cardiff. Since then, Mr Elmore has been elected as the Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Rail in Wales. Mr Elmore commented: “It’s been a month now and still no response to our concerns – when will the Welsh Secretary and the Transport Secretary take the need for in

My Glamorgan Gem Column - September 2017

Glamorgan Gem Column - September 2017 The Tories are Trying to Subvert Democracy Two weeks back in Parliament is all it takes to realise that the Tories in Westminster are on the back-foot following the General Election in June. We saw them deprived of a majority after they took the electorate for granted and last week we were presented with yet more evidence that the UK Tory Government is obsessed with clinging onto power. Last Tuesday, the Government voted through changes to parliamentary committees to give Theresa May a majority on crucial legislative committees that drive the Commons agenda. This is a direct power-grab by the Government in the wake of their embarrassing loss of seats in

My Glamorgan Gazette Column - September 2017

Glamorgan Gazette Column - September 2017 Chris Elmore's Westminster Eye As Parliament returns, I wanted to give you an update as to what my Welsh Labour colleagues and I have been doing to ensure the UK Government doesn't get away with its broken promise on rail electrification to Swansea. You might have heard that the Transport Secretary, Chris Grayling MP, snuck out plans to scrap electrification west of Cardiff just before Parliament rose for the summer recess. In response , I coordinated a letter which was signed by all 22 South Wales Welsh Labour MPs. The letter calls on the Transport Secretary and the Secretary of State for Wales, Alun Cairns MP, to reverse their decision to cancel ra

Mr Elmore commented: “I’m proud to support Welsh farming and the agricultural industry across the UK. Farming provides good quality food, employment and protects our Welsh countryside.” Farming in Mr Elmore’s Ogmor

"Disabled People are Being Failed - The Time for Action is Now", says Chris Elmore MP

Chris Elmore, MP for Ogmore, has blasted the UK Government following the findings of a damning report by the United Nations scrutinising policies towards disabled people. The report, published last week by the UN’s Committee on the Rights for Persons with Disabilities, found that Government policies towards the disabled were causing a “human catastrophe”. The committee also stated that the UK was of greater concern than of any other nation within its 10 year history. Chris Elmore MP commented: “Only one conclusion can be taken from this report: a reversal of the decisions which have led to half a million disabled people being between £2,000 and £3,000 is now a moral necessity.” The report fo
