Ogmore MP Chris Elmore this week called on the UK Government to follow Bridgend charity Wings Cymru’s lead. Ogmore MP urges constituents and government to do more on Clean Air Day for heart health

This Clean Air Day, Chris Elmore MP is encouraging their constituents to help improve air quality for all by ditching their cars and getting active. Constituents in Ogmore are encouraged to cycle or walk when they can. This will limit their pollution contribution but also protect their heart health, as air pollution levels can be significantly higher inside a car. As well as encouraging individual action, Chris Elmore MP is also calling for national action to make the UK’s air safe to breathe, especially for their constituents with heart and circulatory conditions whose health is at increased risk from air pollution. Y Bont's Bake Off Success

MP’s Chris Elmore and Madeline Moon along with Huw Irranca-Davies AM joined with Bridgend charity Y Bont for a fundraising bake off on Friday. The third annual bake-ff was judged by the trio along with Y Bont volunteer Rita. Cakes from staff and parents of the children were put in front of the MP for the hotly contested Y Bont Bake Off Winner. The money raised will help the charity further with the work they’re doing. Chris Elmore MP attended an event in parliament last night to support the launch of the Children’s Charter on Fake News – a new set of rights for UK children around fake news. Mr Elmore was interviewed at the event about fake news by pupils from a secondary school in his constituency. The charter was developed by the Commission on Fake News and the Teaching of Critical Literacy Skills in Schools following its year-long inquiry into the impact of fake news on children and young people in the UK. Ogmore MP Urges Better Support for Women Leaving Prison

Local MP, Chris Elmore, has continued his campaign for better support for women leaving prison by raising the issue with the Government in the Commons Chamber. Mr Elmore, who has previously led a Parliamentary debate on the issue, asked the Government to set out a plan for how they will improve support available. In response, Justice Secretary, David Gauke MP, promised the publication of a strategy in the ‘near-future’. There is often little support for women leaving prison, and according to the Prison Reform Trust, six in 10 women do not have homes to go to on release, whilst 45% of women are reconvicted within one year. Local MP Calls on Government to Protect Steelworkers through a Customs Union

Ogmore MP, Chris Elmore, on Monday called on the UK Government to commit to membership of a customs union in order to protect the UK’s steel industry. The comments came in the House of Commons chamber during a response to a statement by International Trade Secretary, Liam Fox MP. Mr Elmore claimed that in light of the USA’s decision to apply tariffs on UK steel, the industry would be further reliant on exports to Europe, and that a customs union would be the best solution to protect such trade.
