The number of women being recalled has more than doubled since the Offender Rehabilitation Act was introduced by the Conservative Government in 2014. Speaking in a Westminster Hall debate on the issue, Chris Elmore called on ministers to accept the recommendations of the Prison Reform Trust’s Brok

MP for Ogmore, Chris Elmore, has spoken of his dismay at the continuing roll-out of Universal Credit which was condemned by a ConservativeMP at Prime Minister’s Questions this week. Tory MP for South Cambridgeshire, Heidi Allen, called on Theresa May to review the benefit cap and 5-week delay built into the new benefit system. Damningly, she then proceeded to say that her government’s welfare policies meant that the “welfare safety net is no longer holding up those most vulnerable in society, it’s tangling around their feet and dragging them under the water.” Speaking after Prime Minister’s Questions, Chris Elmore MP said: “How many more voices from across the poitical spectrum need to come

The Ogmore MP added his support for Fuel Poverty Awareness Day which seeks to highlight the precarious situation many communities are now finding themselves in. Safer Internet Day

Last Tuesday it was Safer Internet Day which was a perfect opportunity for us to reassess our relationship with social media and our online activity. Shortly, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Social Media and Young People's Mental Health, which I chair, will publish a report to try and address these challenges, following our Inquiry into this issue with The Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH). As ever, I'll be sure to keep constituents up-to-date as this important work progresses. On Safer Internet Day, Beth considers using her phone less to look after her mental health more. Horses, Horse Riders and the Highway Code

Earlier this week, at Transport Questions, I asked Ministers to confirm whether they will now be including horses and horse riders in the review of the Highway Code. This is vital to ensure all vulnerable road users are protected from harm.

Rethinking Mental Health: Joining up the rhetoric with reality

If we are to truly tackle the mental health challenges we face as a society, we must give mental and physical health parity of esteem in reality as well as in rhetoric. As many of you will know, I've been exploring the ways through which social media use can have an impact on young people's mental health. The scale of this problem alone shows just how much more we have to do to get to grips with this issue. Here's an article I've written for Politics First on this important issue. Chris Elmore, MP for Ogmore, has criticised the UK Government for failing to deliver rail infrastructure improvements since the Conservatives took office in 2010. Speaking during a debate in Westminster Hall on issues around the Great Western Mainline, the Ogmore MP slated UK ministers’ inaction on station improvements and said the Welsh Government had been having to step in instead. Speaking after the debate, Chris Elmore MP said: “Quite frankly, it shouldn’t be up to the devolved administrations to use parts of their tight budgets on station improvements which are still a reserved responsibility of the UK Government. “I’m pleased the Welsh Labour Government are investing heavily in the new
