Ogmore’s MP, Chris Elmore, has added his support to the RSPB’s “Let Nature Sing” campaign which seeks to reverse the damaging trend of bird species decline sweeping across the UK. 165 bird species are currently critically endangered in the UK and since 1996, 40 million birds have been lost. Chris Elmore, MP for Ogmore, has called for a debate in Parliament on the damaging rise in food bank usage, following damning new statistics released by the Trussell Trust. The charity, which runs the majority of food banks across the UK, announced last week that there had been in excess of 100,000 referrals made over the past year and a staggering 43 per cent rise in food parcels supplied in the last 5 years. Ogmore MP Encourages Local Residents To Attend Cian Case Memorial Event

Local MP, Chris Elmore, is promoting a memorial event being held later this month in memory of Cian Case, a 6-year-old boy from Llanharan who passed away last year. Cian had battled a rare form of cancerous brain and spinal tumour. Cian died in January 2018 following a long struggle with an atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumour which began in 2015. Following initial treatment, Cian was told that the tumours had gone, through sadly his condition relapsed in November 2017. Throughout his treatment, and since his death, his parents have worked tirelessly to raise awareness of Cian’s condition and help others who are struggling with similar situations. Chris Elmore, MP for Ogmore, has called on local residents to make themselves aware of the symptoms of bowel cancer. April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month and the charity Bowel Cancer UK is encouraging uptake of screening tests and calling on people to seek medical advice if they experience any of the symptoms of the disease. The symptoms of bowel cancer include: bleeding from your bottom and/or blood in your poo; a persistent and unexplained change in bowel habit; unexplained weight loss; extreme tiredness for no obvious reason; and/or a pain or lump in your tummy.
