“Regional inequality will be entrenched if the UK Government do not end their one-size-fits-all appr

Ogmore MP Chris Elmore is calling on the UK Government to take swift action to prevent regional inequalities across the UK becoming entrenched as a result of their one-size-fits-all approach to financial support in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Labour Party analysis of official data shows that areas with a high proportion of workers in struggling sectors, such as aviation, retail and manufacturing, will be hardest hit by the financial impact of the virus. Wales has the second highest proportion of the population employed in retail, a sector that has struggled and has seen big names, including Marks & Spencer, Debenhams, and John Lewis announce significant job cuts in recent months. Local MP encourages Ogmore constituents to check the support they’re entitled to in the face of Coro

Ogmore MP Chris Elmore is encouraging all local residents who are entitled to access support and benefits to do so if they are experiencing financial difficulties as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Citizens’ Advice have found that around 6 million UK adults have fallen behind on at least one household bill during the pandemic, including rent, utilities, and Council Tax. They also found that those who have been directly affected by the virus, key workers who played a vital role in the response, or those who were already in a financially precarious situation are far more likely to have fallen behind on bills. This could have a significant impact on the economic recovery as every pound sp

Local bus services “a lifeline not a luxury” says Chris Elmore MP

Since the Coronavirus pandemic began, Chris has been working to ensure key workers have access to adequate bus services — both in the Ogmore Valley and right across the constituency. However, many residents have raised concerns that services that were withdrawn or reduced during lockdown have not yet been reinstated. Chris Elmore MP said: “Living at the bottom of the Ogmore Valley myself, I know just how vital bus services are for those residents who don’t have cars - whether for travelling to work, c

Ogmore MP welcomes “significant investment” in Test, Trace, Protect

Chris Elmore has welcomed the Welsh Labour Government’s announcement of an additional £32m to speed up Coronavirus testing times in Wales. It forms part of a package of measures to combat Covid-19 in Wales and put communities on a solid footing should there be any increase in cases in the months ahead. Chris Elmore MP said: “We know that as we enter the winter months, there will be an increased risk of Coronavirus spread. Free childcare for working parents of three- and four-year-olds is being brought back after it was suspended in April to allow funds to be redirected to support key workers’ childcare needs. The scheme will give eligible parents 30 hours of early years education and childcare per week for 48 weeks a year. Chris Elmore MP said: “With businesses looking to get back to work and bring employees back from home, we need to ensure that parents are supported with adequate and accessible childcare. T

Welsh Labour MP for Ogmore, Chris Elmore, has received vital information about the provision of local postal deliveries following a large number of local residents raising concerns with him. Ogmore constituents from the Llanharan area have been in touch with Chris following an apparent reduction in deliveries of post being made in the area. In response to a recent letter from Chris, the Royal Mail has acknowledged that a large number of staff illnesses during the Covid-19 pandemic has caused a fall in the number of deliveries being made in the area. The situation is now improving and deliveries are now taking place every other day, having reduced to two days per week during the peak of the p
