On Monday Chris Elmore MP, Huw Irranca-Davies AM along with Councillor Richard Williams and Mayor (and Councillor) John McCarthy opened the Pencoed food bank run by the Trussel group.
Thirteen million people live below the poverty line in the UK, with individuals going hungry every day for a range of reasons, from benefit delays to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income.
Chris Elmore MP said upon opening the food bank: “I have mixed feelings opening the food bank today. I’m delighted that those who need it most can access a lifesaving service in Pencoed. However, I’m truly sad that food banks even need to exist in this day and age.”
Huw Irranca-Davies AM added: “The volunteers are due a huge amount of credit. They give up their free time to help those who are caught in the unfortunate position of needing a food bank. One day I hope we can say that these banks are no longer needed.”
The foodbank will be open on Mondays and will help the most impoverished people in our communities.
