MP and AM Help Foodbank Collections for Busy Christmas Period

Ahead of the Christmas period the Foodbank welcomed MP Chris Elmore and AM Huw Irranca-Davies to their collection in Tesco Maesteg. The Foodbank are expecting record uptakes this Christmas.

The Trusell Trust, who run the foodbanks, have recently opened a new foodbank in Pencoed and run banks in Maesteg, Aberkenfig, Bettws, Caerau and Ogmore Vale. They serve those who have been let down by the system and cannot afford to feed themselves and their familes: including many who are in work.

Chris Elmore said: “It was a pleasure joining the fantastic volunteers of Trussell. I’m overwhelmed by the generosity of people during these collections. We collected two cages worth of food in an hour and a half.”

Huw Irranca-Davies added: “It’s a shame that foodbanks have to exist at all, but they provide an essential lifeline for people. Without the amazing foodbank volunteers we’d see people going hungry.”

Tesco, where the foodbank collections happen, also top-up the food their customers donate.
