MP calls for HSBC closure to be discussed in Parliament.

Following the shock announcement that HSBC will be closing its branch in Maesteg later this year, local MP Chris Elmore called for a debate in Parliament to discuss banks responsibilities to the communities they serve.

Customers from May will no longer be able to visit the HSBC branch in Maesteg but will now have to go to Port Talbot or Bridgend to do their banking.

The Ogmore MP said: “I’m deeply concerned about HSBC’s decision and have organised to meet with them in the coming weeks. Banks have a responsibility to their communities and that’s why I’ve called for a debate in Parliament to make sure towns and villages aren’t abandoned by our banks.” The questions were asked to the leader of the house David Liddington MP on Thursday, January 2nd.
