Firstly, I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and New Year. Since my last article, I’ve been around the constituency visiting and supporting various events and social occasions, including OAP Christmas lunches, announcing the winner of my Christmas Card Competition, charity events and numerous concerts.
It was a huge pleasure joining both the Llanharan OAP lunch and the Llanharry dinner. I missed a few due to my parliamentary commitments but I would like to say thank you to all the volunteers and residents who made all the dinners a huge success and good fun. Without volunteers, groups like these wouldn’t survive. Everyone should be commended for giving up their free time: especially around Christmas!
I’d like to thank all the schools and the pupils who entered my Christmas card competition. The standard was incredibly high and I was so pleased to give the first prize to Hollie Davies from Dolau Primary school.
Her card design was sent to 1,000 people, groups and organisations all over the constituency and even went to First Minister, Carwyn Jones AM. Thank you to Head Teacher, Mr Evans and Chair of Governors, Cllr Barry Stephens for letting us come into school to award Hollie her prize with her classmates and teachers. Thanks to local councillor, Roger Turner and Mrs Barbara Stephens for joining us during the presentation.
I was pleased to visit Bridgend College, Pencoed campus, just before Christmas. The college plays a vital role in educating people, young and old right across our area. Their success as a college is recognised both through outstanding inspections outcomes, but also by the on-going success of the support it provides and the successful examination results of its students. It was a pleasure to meet with college staff and speak to students directly about their enjoyment of learning at the campus.
Looking forward to the coming year I’m excited to get my teeth back into constituency work after the Christmas break. Including on the 10th of February a funding advice event for third sector groups. I’ve invited 15 funding providers to come and speak to groups and give advice on how to secure funding. We’ll have organisations such as the Big Lottery, Arts Council and Wales Council for Voluntary Action to name but a few attending. If you know of a group who would benefit from this please get them to contact my office on 01656 860 034.
My next advice surgery is in Brynna on the 28th of January in the OAP Centre on Southall Street from 10:30 am. You don’t require an appointment to see me – just turn up. If you can’t attend but do have an issue please contact me on email@example.com or call my office on 01656 860 034.
