Gazette Column – Nice to get back to the community work

As the dust settles on what has been the fifth election for the people of Ogmore in just three years (sixth for those in Ogmore Vale!), I’d firstly like to thank everyone who supported my re-election, as your MP. I will continue to work for all constituents, always being your voice in Parliament. With the elections over, it’s nice to get back to working with community groups and tending to the needs of constituents. It’s been a busy time since the election and I was pleased to open the Pencoed summer fair at Bridgend College. Maria and the team should be very proud of an event that goes from strength to strength each year. I was delighted to attend the Maesteg Children’s choir on Friday last. Their talent never ceases to amaze me and I wouldn’t be surprised if I’d seen a future star at the concert. My thanks to for a wonderful performance from Take Note Choir, who supported the concert. Community work is a funny business, as I’ve written already, it can vary from concerts to openings but on Saturday I had the opportunity to roll my sleves up and get more hands on! I joined my colleagues Cllr Rod Shaw and Huw Irranca-Davies AM along with the Pontycymmer wimbles in painting the bus stop. We went with the Pontycymmer RFC colours – there’s no way of missing it! A really good sense of community spirit up in Pontycymmer – and I was thrilled to join them. As ever, if you have any issues please get in touch on 01656 860 034 or email
