21st Century Teaching Facility, Y Pant Comprehensive, Opens in Pontyclun

September 30, 2017

As part of the Labour Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools Programme, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has invested over twenty four million pounds to provide a new hi-tech, modern teaching facility in Pontyclun – supported with nearly twelve million pounds from the Labour Welsh Government.

Officially opened by First Minister Carwyn Jones, the ceremony was also attended by Ogmore representatives, Huw Irranca-Davies AM and Chris Elmore MP, Pontypridd representatives Mick Antoniw AM and Owen Smith MP along with Leader and Cabinet Members of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council.

Following the visit which featured a range of performances from some of the school’s many talented pupils, Ogmore Assembly Member Huw Irranca-Davies stated:  “This latest investment in a state-of-the-art school is a clear recognition of the Welsh Government and RCT’s ongoing commitment to driving up education standards and opportunities for all our young people.”

Chris Elmore MP stated:  “The new building really is a stunning, state of the art complex. It’s going to allow Y Pant to go from strength to strength as a centre for excellence in education. Many thanks to the teaching staff, support staff, governors and students for putting on a fabulous opening ceremony. Projects like this show how the Welsh Government is future-proofing education in Wales.”
