MP Congratulates Betti on Her 100th Birthday

September 30, 2017

Local MP, Chris Elmore, has congratulated Betti Jones on turning 100 this week.

Born into a family with five brothers in Lluest in 1917, Bettie went on to marry Aaron Jones for over 60 years.

A mother of three, Betti worked at the Arsenal during World War II and has often recounted how dangerous the work was at the time. She later went on to work at Parc Hospital and then onto the Trem y Mor Nursing Home in Bettws, before returning to work at Parc before retiring.

Her husband, Aaron, served in the Royal Navy during World War II before working in the Ffaldau Pit. Together, they raised their family of three children

Ogmore MP, Chris Elmore, said: “Turning 100 is quite a feat which many of us may not go on to achieve. Betti has had a remarkable life which has clearly been devoted to serving her country and her local community. I’d like to congratulate Betti on reaching this milestone – I hope she has a relaxing day of celebrations.”

Betti, who will be spending her birthday with family and friends on October 5th, is often heard saying: “I wouldn’t change anything about my life, it’s been such a good one.”
