My District Diary Column - September 2017

This month, I was delighted to welcome a large group of constituents to Parliament as part of the first (hopefully of many) trips I’ve organised. It was great to see residents from Llanharan, Llanharry, Pencoed and further afield coming along to spend an exciting day at the heart of the UK’s democracy. Local residents who came along were treated to a tour of Parliament, refreshments in one of Parliament’s stunning rooms and the opportunity to watch a debate in the House of Commons from the Public Gallery. In the afternoon, everyone then had the opportunity to spend some free time around central London before heading back to the constituency. I hope everyone who came along had a fantastic time – it was great to see so many familiar faces and to be able to talk to you about how I work to represent you.

I’m running a Christmas trip to Parliament on Tuesday, 28th November. The day will include a tour of Parliament, tea, coffee and mince pies in Parliament and free time to go Christmas shopping in London before heading home. Please do give my office a call on 01656 860 034 or email if you’d like a booking form. It would be lovely to welcome you to Westminster!

Talking of Parliament, I’m honoured to have been elected by a group of cross-party MPs to become the Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Rail in Wales. Many of you who have read my previous columns will know that I have recently undertaken a great deal of work concerning South Wales’ rail services. Under my chairmanship, the committee will continue to fight for a fairer deal for our communities in terms of rail infrastructure investment.

Back in the constituency, I was pleased to attend the Pontyclun Bosom Pals’ Prosecco and Strawberries event this month with Huw Irranca-Davies AM and Mick Antoniw AM. The group do a remarkable job in helping to support those living with cancer across Pontyclun and the surrounding areas. The Bosom Pals meet at 7:30pm on the first Monday of every month (providing it’s not a bank holiday) at the Pavilion in Talbot Green. If you would like to join them for a friendly, confidential, supportive get together, please do go along – they’re a lovely bunch!

Also this month, I was pleased to be able to go along to Llanharan Drop In Centre’s new Arcadia Over 60s Club. The group are putting on an excellent deal of a main meal and a drink for only £3 – you can’t go wrong! The food was delicious – it’s definitely well worth popping down. Many thanks to all the volunteers for their hospitality – I will definitely be returning!

It’s been great to get back to Parliament following the summer recess to keep speaking up for our communities. As always if you have any issues which you’d like to raise with me, please do get in touch by calling my office on 01656 860 034 or by emailing You may also wish to attend one of my regular Advice Surgeries.
