Ogmore MP, Chris Elmore, has blasted the Conservative Party Conference as resembling an episode of the hit BBC TV Comedy, The Thick of It.
Commenting on the conference, Mr Elmore said: “My goodness. Armando Iannucci couldn’t have written this! Theresa May presented with a P45, the conference set literally falling apart as she spoke, and then of course her inability to speak during her speech due to a nasty cough. If her continued policies towards the country weren’t so damaging to our communities, I would almost feel sorry for her.”
Theresa May’s conference speech was interrupted by comedian, Simon Brodkin, in what appeared to be a serious breach of security at the Conservatives’ annual conference.
The Ogmore MP continued: “Aside from the drama, what we heard from Theresa May was like a broken record. Her speech was very similar to that which she made 15 months ago on the steps outside 10 Downing Street. She’s had time to act on these promises and hasn’t – why should be trust a word she says now?”.
Many of the policy announcements were lost in the midst of the drama, which saw the Tory leader humiliated in what was billed by many as a make-or-break speech for her premiership.
Mr Elmore quipped: “Theresa May has said all this before but – 15 months on – in her words, “nothing has changed”.”
