Ogmore MP, Chris Elmore, has spoken of the moving concert he attended to mark the start of remembrance commemorations in the Garw Valley.
Mr Elmore attended the Poppy Appeal concert at the Garw Valley Leisure Centre which featured musical interludes from the Band and Corps of Drums of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines and Maesteg Male Voice Choir.
Mr Elmore commented: “Remembrance is always a moving time of the year when we reflect on those who have served from across our communities. It’s a vital time to come together to express our thanks for the sacrifices made by so many in order for us to enjoy the freedoms we do today.”
Concert goers were also treated to performances from three local primary school choirs from Blaengarw Primary School, Ysgol Cwm Garw, and Ffaldau Primary School.
The Ogmore MP added: “It’s so positive to see young people getting involved at times of remembrance: we must ensure the next generation does not forget what previous generations have done to ensure they can live in a country which is open, tolerant and diverse. I want to pass on my thanks to the Garw Valley Branch of the Royal British Legion and all those who helped to organise this important and moving event.”
Events are scheduled to happen across Bridgend and Rhondda Cynon Taff throughout the remembrance season. You can find out what’s happening near you by visiting the Royal British Legion’s website (http://www.britishlegion.org.uk/) or by contacting your local Royal British Legion branch.
