Youngsters Give Local MP a Grilling During UK Parliament Week

November 20, 2017

Schools across the UK have been marking UK Parliament Week which seeks to engage more people with national politics.

Chris Elmore, MP for Ogmore, visited Pencoed Primary School where he received a grilling about his role as their local MP.

Mr Elmore commented: “I love visiting local schools across the constituency. It’s vitally important that young people feel engaged with the people who represent them at all political levels so that they feel able to participate and use their voice for good.”

Pupils at the school questioned Mr Elmore on a number of topics including his hobbies, what it’s like to be an MP and how Parliament works.

Mr Elmore continued: “I’d like to thank the pupils at Pencoed Primary School for giving me such a warm welcome. It’s clear that we have some budding politicians in our midst! Who knows: the school councillors of today could go on be the councillors, Assembly Members or Members of Parliament of the future.”

The local MP also highlighted that school groups can visit Parliament for free and there are subsidies available to help with travel costs. Any local schools interested in doing so should contact Mr Elmore’s constituency office by calling 01656 860 034.
