Ogmore MP Discusses Ways To Tackle Hunger and Food Waste

Chris Elmore, MP for Ogmore, met with FareShare Cymru this week, a charity which seeks to reduce food waste whilst tackling food poverty.

Mr Elmore received a tour of the charity’s South Wales Distribution Centre in Cardiff before discussing the ways through which the organisation’s reach could be expanded to help more people.

Mr Elmore commented: “FareShare Cymru really is an amazing charity. I’m pleased they’re working with four local charities and community projects in my constituency to give those in need wholesome food whilst also countering the scourge of food waste which for years has become a stain on our society.”

It is estimated that between 25,000 and 30,000 meals have been provided by the organisation across Mr Elmore’s constituency alone. This service forms part of a network of over 100 charities and community groups helped by FareShare Cymru each year.

In the past year, over 580 tonnes of unwanted food have been rescued, avoiding the emission of 1,774 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide.

Mr Elmore continued: “If there are any community groups or charities who would like to be involved with FareShare, please do contact me and I’ll be happy to put you in touch with them. Whether it be a pensioners’ club, community kitchen or any other type of project, it’s definitely worth looking into this.”

Anybody interested in partnering with the organisation can contact Mr Elmore’s constituency office on 01656 860034 or email chris.elmore.mp@parliament.uk for further information.
