Chris Elmore, MP for Ogmore, has called on the UK Government to stop criticising the NHS in Wales.
Mr Elmore, who was speaking in an Opposition Day debate on the NHS winter crisis, praised the integrated health and social care service overseen by the Welsh Government.
The Ogmore MP commented: “It’s high time the UK Government stopped attacking the Welsh NHS and focussed on the significant issues the NHS in England is facing. The Welsh Government has previously taken the lead on integrating health and social care services: the UK Government would do well to build on the Welsh Government’s record, rather than to discredit it.”
The Opposition Day motion demanding the UK Government to release additional funding for NHS services in England passed without a vote after the Government whipped its MPs to abstain.
Mr Elmore continued: “It’s clear that the government doesn’t have a majority in the House of Commons on issues like the health services, which are facing immense pressures due to the Tories’ ongoing cuts agenda. The fact that the government would rather abstain rather than defend its record shows just how weak Theresa May is.”
