Chris Elmore, MP for Ogmore, has added his name to the Holocaust Educational Trust’s book of commitment to mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2018.
Mr Elmore commented: “We must always remember the truly horrific events of the Holocaust and continue to educate future generations as to the importance of never allowing fascist ideologies to win. Only through education can we pave the way to a more tolerant, decent society where no individual or group ever has to feel segregated or persecuted again.”
The local MP signed the book in Parliament alongside other MPs in advance of Holocaust Memorial Day 2018 which is on Saturday, 27th January.
Mr Elmore continued: “Globally, we live in challenging times. Since the last Holocaust Memorial Day, we have seen the President of the United States – the Leader of the Free World – failing to condemn neo-Nazis in Charlottesville. This is a symptom of the divisive and repugnant attitudes which lie beneath the surface and have gone largely unchecked for too long across the Western World and beyond in recent years and we must continue to challenge them.”
The Holocaust Educational Trust’s mission is to educate young people from every background about the Holocaust and the important lessons to be learnt today. This year is a pertinent year for the Trust which is now in its thirtieth year.
