District Diary Column

September 5, 2018

I’ve enjoyed being able to get out into the community more over the past few weeks now that Parliament is in recess – specifically meeting residents, promoting summer activities and, this month, I had the pleasure presenting prizes at the Llanharan Horticultural event once again.

This years’ competition and event was fantastic and really does go from strength to strength each year. A huge thank you to Nathan Hughes, Mel Hughes, Sharon Hughes and Rob Hughes for their continued commitment to the show and all the volunteers who help put the wonderful event together – they really do pull it out of the bag every year. I was delighted to join Cllr Geraint Hopkins and Cllr Chris Parker in giving out prizes too.

I’m also thrilled that the Llanharan wimbles have opened their community garden and allotment. They sell what they don’t use and I thoroughly recommend their courgettes and unusually shaped carrots! The Wimbles are quickly becoming a Llanharan staple – their work in their litter picks, river cleans and now with the community garden really does make them an asset to the community. Well done to all the volunteers involved.

I thoroughly enjoyed this years’ Eisteddfod just down the road in Cardiff. A completely different look to other Eisteddfods I’ve attended, and I really think it worked. The Maes looked fantastic down in Cardiff Bay and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if other Eisteddfod’s looked similar in the future. As it was free it really did feel like a really inclusive event and I’m glad the traders have reported that they’ve increased their normal wage from the Maes. A real celebration of Welsh culture, heritage and language for all the family.

As Parliament returns in early September, I of course am looking to t eh autumn and winter events that follow. I already have the Llanharan OAP Christmas lunch in the diary. If there is an event you’d like me to support – please get in touch.

As ever, I will be holding advice surgeries throughout September and you can find more information on them on my facebook page ChrisElmoreMP , my twitter page @cpjelmore or on my website www.chriselmore.co.uk . If you can not attend but you have an issue you’d like to raise with me, you can email me on chris.elmore.mp@parliament.uk or call my office on 01656 860 034. I hope everyone has managed to enjoy the wonderful summer we’ve had this year at some point.
