I was delighted and humbled to attend and be asked to speak at the Garw Valley Branch of the Royal British Legion Band Concert in Pontycymmer at the weekend.
For the 14th year, the communities of the Garw came together to mark the sacrifice made by those who have served in all conflicts. This year was especially poignant as we commemorate the 100th year since the end to World War One.
As ever, it was wonderful to welcome two Chelsea Pensioners, one of whom was born in Pencoed. The warmth from everyone at the concert for these men cannot be overstated.
With music from the Regimental Band of the Royal Welsh, Maesteg and District Male Voice Choir and the joint choirs of Blaengarw, Ysgol CYM Garw and Ffaldau Primary schools it was a moving evening paying respectful tribute to our armed forces.
The work of the Royal British Legion can’t be understated and these events make all the difference and it was first class as usual with support from BCBC Council Leader, Huw David, BCBC Mayor and Mayoress, John Mccarthy & Judy Mccarthy and Garw Valley Community Council Chair and Pontycymmer Councillor Rod Shaw.
