I backed The Yorkshire Building Society’s Socktober appeal on World Homeless Day (Wednesday 10 October).
The Society is running the month-long Socktober appeal throughout October as part of its charity partnership with End Youth Homelessness.Donations of new pairs of socks, toiletries and interview clothes plus other items such as woolly hats, gloves, scarves, can be made at the Society’s branches across South Wales.
An estimated 86,000 young people in the UK are homeless and, according to latest figures from Centrepoint’s Youth Homelessness Databank , 192 young people in Bridgend received some homelessness support from their local authority in 2016/17.
I am proud to be backing the Socktober appeal for Yorkshire Building Society and End Youth Homelessness, and I’d encourage everyone in South Wales who can to pop in to the Society’s branches or agencies and support it to do so.
The money raised is funding a bespoke Rent Deposit Scheme, home essentials grants and practical help for homeless young people across the UK, with 138 young people to date supported into their own rented homes.
End Youth Homelessness is a UK wide movement, bringing together local charities to tackle youth homelessness on a national scale.
