Ogmore MP Continues Campaign To Improve Mobile Connectivity

February 8, 2019

Chris Elmore, MP for Ogmore, has called on the UK Government to take action to improve mobile phone signal connection after sluggish progress in infrastructure improvements in recent years.

Speaking at Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Questions, Chris challenged ministers to invest in areas – including across his Ogmore constituency – which have very poor mobile phone signal. He remarked on the fact that whilst some areas were concerned at the poor coverage of 4G services, many Valley communities and remote areas struggle to gain any mobile signal at all.

This latest intervention is the latest step the Ogmore MP has taken in his longstanding campaign to improve digital and mobile connectivity across his constituency.

Speaking after the question session, Chris Elmore MP said:

“We always have a lot of warm words from the UK Government on the digital economy but they seem to forget that there are many towns and villages across our communities which have very poor mobile phone signal.

“Given our economy’s increasing reliance on mobile technology, it’s scandalous that there are many people out there who don’t even have the basics where they live.”

In response to his question, DCMS Minister, Margot James MP, said the UK Government was committed to meeting its manifesto commitment to provide 95% geographic coverage of the UK with mobile phone signal yet failed to state what steps ministers would take to accelerate this process.
