Chris Elmore, MP for Ogmore, has praised the campaigning efforts of local Ogmore Valley resident, Mark Williams, on his work raising awareness of the mental health issues many new fathers face.
Speaking at a debate on the issue in Westminster Hall, the Ogmore MP also encouraged more fathers to speak out and share their experiences to help others who may be struggling.
Commenting on the debate, Chris Elmore MP said:
“I’m really pleased we’ve had the opportunity to shine a light on this issue today which isn’t often discussed.
“Mark Williams has undertaken some truly inspirational work and has helped to lift the lid on this problem which was previously a taboo for many.
“It’s vital that people who are struggling seek the help they need. Mark’s work will help more people make this step and I’m glad to have been able to highlight this in today’s debate.”
During the course of the debate, calls were also made for greater support to be made available for those affected by mental health issues and that this support should be targeted equally at both new mothers and fathers.
