Chris Elmore, MP for Ogmore, has praised the Welsh Government’s flagship free childcare policy as a shining example of what the Labour Party can achieve in Government.
The Ogmore MP intervened several times during a debate in Parliament on the costs and benefits of free childcare.
The Welsh Labour Government approved a further £60 million investment in 115 new or redeveloped childcare centres across Wales to deliver on the party’s childcare pledge at the last Welsh Assembly election.
Speaking after the debate, Chris Elmore MP said:
“The UK Government could learn a lot from the way Welsh Government ministers have approached early years intervention. It’s great to see Welsh Labour delivering for working families through their 30-hours free childcare offer, whilst also continuing to invest in Flying Start centres.
“Across England, we’ve seen the continued closure of Sure Start centres – this is something I genuinely believe will only reap long-term negative impacts for so many communities. This is the difference a Labour Government makes.”
