Chris Elmore Calls For Everyday Equality For Disabled People

Ogmore MP Chris Elmore has added his support to the disability charity, Scope’s latest Disability Price Tag report, which sets out what action needs to be taken to deliver true equality for disabled people living in the UK.

Chris met with the charity in Parliament, where he discussed their latest research with them and pledged to support their work moving forwards.

On average, disabled adults face extra costs of £583 simply to allow them to go about their daily lives. Scope’s latest report calls on the Department for Work and Pensions to ensure people in receipt of disability benefits do not lose out during the managed migration of Universal Credit. The charity is also asking the UK Government to provide more support for ill and disabled people facing ballooning extra costs associated with their disability.

Chris Elmore MP said:

“We only have to look at the UN Rapporteur’s recent report into the impact of government policies on disabled people to know that something is going very, very wrong.

“I totally support Scope’s latest report and hope the government will look constructively at their recommendations to ensure ill and disabled people get the support they need and deserve.”
