Chris Elmore, MP for Ogmore, has joined “End Our Pain” campaigners in writing to the UK Government’s Health Secretary, calling on him to ensure patients who would benefit from medicinal cannabis are able to access it.
At a meeting in Parliament, Chris discussed the ongoing campaign with fellow MPs and spoke with individuals who have first-hand experience of the benefits of medicinal cannabis.
Last year, Sajid Javid announced some medicinal cannabis products would be made available for clinicians to prescribe where there is a clear medical need from November 1st 2018.
Since then, many campaigners have experienced difficulty in obtaining such treatments and have called on the UK Government to do more to help those with a genuine need.
Chris Elmore MP said:
“It’s vital that we have robust drug laws to prevent anybody from entering the vicious cycle of addiction that plagues too many of our communities. Where there is a clear medical need and benefit however, we must ensure individuals are able to use medicinal cannabis without fear of prosecution.
“I fully support the End Our Pain campaign and will continue to work closely with colleagues to ensure the Health Secretary makes good on the Home Secretary’s assurances last year.”
