Ogmore MP Holds “Listening To Women” Event To Encourage Youngsters To Use Their Voice

April 18, 2019

Chris Elmore, MP for Ogmore, has held an event with young women at Bridgend College’s Pencoed Campus. The “Listening To Women” event invited young women studying at the college and at Pencoed Comprehensive school to talk all things equality with their local MP and encouraged them to use their voices in the continuing fight for gender equality.

The event was organised in conjunction with the Young Women’s Trust, a charity which support and represents women aged 18-30 who are struggling to live or work on low or no pay across England and Wales.

During the session, the Ogmore MP discussed various issues in the current UK political climate, alongside several important women-specific issues which do not always get the Parliamentary attention they deserve. No issue was off the table: everything from the impact of Brexit on women to period poverty were discussed.

Speaking after the event, Chris Elmore MP said:

“I’d like to thank everyone who came along to this positive event and say a huge thank you to the Young Women’s Trust for helping my team and I organise it.

“It was great to speak with so many diligent and bright young women who are clearly going to have fantastic careers ahead of them. Since I was first elected, I’ve been committed to furthering the case for equality and particularly gender equality.

“I’m always very conscious that I, as a male MP, always need to hear from women across my constituency about the issues they’re facing at the moment. I’ll continue to fight hard on their behalf to ensure any injustices they raise with me are acted upon.”
