Chris Elmore Calls For Action On Digital Connectivity

Ogmore MP Chris Elmore has called on the government to take decisive action to improve rural digital connectivity.

During Business Questions, Chris asked the Leader of the House of Commons, Andrea Leadsom MP, to bring forward a debate in government time to address the issues raised with him by local constituents.

As part of his question, Chris called on the UK Government to address patchy mobile phone signal, TV signal and broadband connectivity in areas such as the Llynfi, Garw and Ogmore Valleys.

Chris Elmore MP said:

“Since I was first elected, one of my key campaigns has been to improve connectivity as I know that many constituents still suffer from poor digital links.

“In 2019, we shouldn’t be having to have this conversation but sadly too many places are being left behind in the technological revolution.

“I’m committed to ensuring no community is left behind and I will keep pushing for action from the UK Government until this happens.”

Ms Leadsom responded to Chris’ question by agreeing that more needed to be done to support communities but refused to find time for a wide-ranging debate on these issues.

Chris has repeatedly called on the UK Government to take action since 2016 and, following Ms Leadsom’s response, he will be seeking to pursue this further.
