Ogmore MP Chris Elmore has been re-elected as Chair of a powerful Parliamentary group of social media.
The newly re-named APPG on Social Media met for their AGM following a highly successful year, during which their landmark #NewFilters report created a national debate around social media use and its impact on young people.
Chris Elmore MP said:
"The APPG #NewFilters report was wakeup call needed to finally get meaningful action taken to lessen the negative impact social media is having on young people's mental health.
“For far too long social media companies have been allowed to operate in an online Wild West, and our report made clear that the government must take action.
“I was delighted to be re-ejected as Chair of the APPG. The decision to officially rename ourselves as the APPG on Social Media will better reflect our work going forward, as we work across Party lines to keep issues around social media high on the political and media agendas.”
