Nantymoel Pupils Lobby Local MP and AM On Plastic Waste

Local pupils from Nantymoel Primary School have called on their local MP and AM to take action to tackle single-use plastic waste.

The delegation met with Chris Elmore MP and Huw Irranca-Davies AM at Chris’ constituency office in Pencoed to present them with a letter detailing their plans to turn the tide on plastic pollution.

The group discussed a number of different environmental issues with Chris and Huw, who agreed with the need to prevent the world’s oceans from being consumed by the ever-growing amount of plastic pollution.

Chris Elmore MP said:

“I’m really pleased so many people – many of them young people – who have been contacting me about the pressing need to tackle the scourge of plastic pollution.

“The amount of pollution we are allowing to enter our seas is simply unsustainable – we have to end this throw-away lifestyle.

“Labour made Parliament declare an environment and climate emergency earlier this year and one the ways we have to go about addressing this is by ridding our society of single-use plastic.”

Huw Irranca-Davies AM said:

“I’m pleased that in Wales we’re close to now being the top country for recycling in the world. But we have so much more to do.

“Tackling the environmental emergency we are causing in almost every ecosystem around the world demands radical action to reduce the impact we’re having.

“It’s been a delight to meet with these incredibly switched-on pupils today – we will ensure their voice is heard loudly and clearly on this issue.”
