Residents Beat The Black Dog On World Suicide Prevention Day

Welsh Labour MP for Ogmore has joined local residents from the Ogmore Valley and beyond to raise money for mental health charity, the Charlie Waller Memorial Trust.

The “Beat the Black Dog” sponsored run took place in Ogmore Vale on Sunday, in advance of World Suicide Prevention Day.

The Charlie Waller Memorial Trust encourages people to talk more openly about depression and the importance of good wellbeing strategies, as well as funding free mental health lessons in local schools and colleges.

Runners were blessed with sunshine at the start line as they headed off on the course from the Ogmore Valley Life Centre.

Speaking after the run, Chris Elmore MP said:

“It’s been so positive to see so many local residents coming together to support this vitally important cause. We all know someone who has been affected by mental health problems and it’s crucial that we continue breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health issues and suicide in particular.

“Huge thanks to Andy Caress and the team who have put everything together today. It really is brilliant to see such good work being done locally to both raise money and grow the awareness surrounding these issues.”
