Commenting on Ineos Automotive’s decision to build its new 4x4 vehicle in Bridgend, Chris Elmore MP and Huw Irranca-Davies AM said:
“After months of deeply worrying developments in South Wales’ automotive sector and beyond, this is truly wonderful news for Bridgend County Borough and will help guarantee our region’s place as a leader in this vital industry.
“With 200 jobs set to be created in the short-term and significant prospects of expansion in the longer term, Ineos have given automotive workers across our communities the vote of confidence they so rightly deserved. The cutting edge Grenadier 4x4 is now set to be produced by one of the most highly-skilled workforces in the world – and right on our doorstep!
“It’s clear that the Welsh Labour Government have been instrumental in helping to secure this investment and we are delighted that the Minister for Economy has been able to begin providing real opportunities for skilled local employment. This is particularly welcome given the devastating blow caused earlier this year by Ford’s decision to close its Bridgend plant.
“Manufacturing – particularly in the automotive sector – has long since underpinned our regional and local economy and we very much hope that this decision is the start of a much brighter future for this crucial sector.”
