Chris Elmore MP has acted to reassure constituents affected by the collapse of renowned holiday firm Thomas Cook.
The company has ceased trading with immediate effect, according to the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and has triggered a government-organised repatriation of more than 150,000 British holidaymakers, the biggest seen in peacetime.
22,000 jobs are at risk worldwide, with 9,000 of those based in the UK.

“Although we’ve known about the difficulties for some time, it’s still a shock to see one of the most famous holiday brands collapse.
“It is a sad time for holidaymakers who are abroad and face the stress and uncertainty for their travel home, for those due to travel who now have lost their holidays, and for those workers facing unemployment through no fault of their own.

The government has chartered 45 jets to bring customers home and the size of the fleet will temporarily make it the UK’s fifth-largest airline. ATOL, the holiday protection scheme, supports customers if the travel company they book with ceases trading. It will support customers at home and abroad to refund, repatriate, or reimburse travellers for the cost of repaying for the affected parts of their trip.
The government hope to get customers home as closely as possible to their original planned dates with operators including easyJet and Virgin supplying aircraft.
