“Walk to School, improve your health and save the planet” – Chris Elmore MP

October 2, 2019

A generation ago, 70% of children walked to school. Now, it’s less than half.

The Living Streets charity is looking to reverse this trend with their Walk to School campaign this October for primary and secondary school children.

Walking to school has many clear benefits from improved attentiveness in the classroom through to less traffic and pollution on our roads. During morning peak traffic times, 1 in 5 cars on the road are taking children to school and 2 in 5 parents of primary school children are worried about pollution levels around their children’s schools.

Chris Ogmore MP said:

“There are so many reasons to take part in Walk to School – from improving our children’s physical and mental health through daily exercise, to doing our bit to reduce carbon emissions to help protect our health and our planet.

“We have all read about the dangers posed by the “climate emergency” and should remember that small steps like this really can make a big difference.

“The benefits are clear and I’d urge Mums and Dads across Ogmore to get involved and Walk to School this October.”
