The Post Office has recently made public the decision to temporarily close its branch in Llanharan, citing operational issues.
During the closure, the nearest alternative services can be accessed in Bryncae, Brynna, and Llanharry.
Post Office closures have been a matter of concern for many across the UK in recent years and Chris has been working closely with local residents to minimise the impact this has on his Ogmore constituency.
In April 2019, a survey conducted by the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Select Committee suggested that up to a fifth of Post Office branches could close due to financial concerns. This could have a significant impact on the community as the Post Office provides vital high street services for many communities, particularly for the elderly and the vulnerable.
Chris Elmore MP said:
“The Post Office provides essential services for many people across the constituency, particularly in our smaller villages and Valleys communities.
“I have been working closely with the Post Office to help ensure that the service provision is at least maintained, if not expanded, in close consultation with local residents.
“With bank branches closing across the country, the Post Office is a vital link ensuring vulnerable customers retain their access to cash and other services and I hope this closure will not only be temporary and lasts only for a short time.”
