Local MP urges constituents to continue to follow social distancing guidelines

Ogmore MP, Chris Elmore, has urged local residents to continue following the social distancing guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19, following reports of people flouting the rules.

Neither the UK nor the Welsh Government has yet indicated that lockdown restrictions will be relaxed and the current “stay at home” restrictions remain in place. Currently, people can only leave their homes to:

· shop for the essentials,

· seek medical support,

· take daily exercise once per day, or to

· travel to work, only if absolutely essential.

Chris has recently received several reports from local residents about people apparently breaking the rules that are currently in place and is urging his constituents to continue to comply with the current measures.

Chris Elmore MP said:

“I completely understand and sympathise with the impact these restrictions are having on all of our lives. But it’s vital that we continue working together to ensure that we protect our NHS and help to save lives. The social distancing that we’ve all been practicing is helping to flatten the curve but we can’t afford to waste the progress we have made to date.

“I would urge all constituents to continue following the strict public health rules in place. I know that the majority of people are but it’s essential that everybody does.”

The Welsh Labour MP is continuing to provide support for his constituents throughout the pandemic. If you are a constituent who wishes to raise an issue or concern with Chris, you are advised to email chris.elmore.mp@parliament.uk or call 01656 860034 and leave an answerphone message.
