Local MP Urges Constituents to Continue Following Welsh Government Social Distancing Guidelines

Ogmore MP Chris Elmore has urged constituents to continue to follow social distancing guidelines after clarification from Welsh Government that lockdown has not changed in Wales.

The Prime Minister on Sunday night announced changes to the lockdown in England, with people allowed to sunbathe in parks and travel to exercise. Boris Johnson has also outlined plans for some school children to return at the start of June.

However, rules have not changed in Wales, with only essential journeys permitted and exercise only allowed to take place locally.

Chris Elmore MP said:

“We have seen from other countries in Europe that lifting lockdown restrictions too soon can lead to a dangerous spike in the transmission of the virus. Wales is still locked down and we need to continue to follow the guidelines to protect the most vulnerable, support our brilliant key workers and ensure the virus cannot spread.

“Of course there is concern that different rules in England and Wales will lead to confusion. But the Welsh Government has, as always, taken a decision in the best interests of the people in Wales. We must continue to respect the guidance”.

Constituents with questions or concerns can contact Chris Elmore’s office on 01656 860034 or via email at chris.elmore.mp@parliament.uk.
