Local MP urges constituents to respect social distancing guidelines

Chris Elmore MP is urging local residents to continue following the Welsh Labour Government’s social distancing guidelines to prevent a second peak of COVID-19. The Ogmore MP has recently received concerning reports of breaches of social distancing when people are using public spaces – including incidents of antisocial behaviour.

Lockdown restrictions remain unchanged in Wales and the public are still required to stay at home, except for essential reasons and exercise. When people do leave their homes, strict social distancing measures must be adhered to by keeping at least 2 metres apart from individuals from other households.

Chris Elmore MP said:

“I would like to thank the vast majority of local residents who are continuing to follow the strict public health guidance that is in place, but I must reiterate that we are still in lockdown. Over the past 10 days I’ve had some worrying reports of antisocial behaviour in several places across the constituency, including in the Garw Valley.

“I have been in regular contact with South Wales Police since the beginning of the lockdown, and they have reaffirmed that they will take action if people flount the rules that are there to protect us all.

“Together, we’ve helped to ensure that our NHS can cope with the immense challenges we are currently living through. Let’s not throw away the progress we’ve made and risk a second peak of this terrible virus.”
