Ogmore MP Chris Elmore has called for Ineos to reconsider their decision to withdraw plans to manufacture its new 4x4 Grenadier vehicle on a site next to the Ford plant in Bridgend.
Last year, Ineos Automotive announced plans to build the Grenadier on a site offering up to 500 jobs. The announcement had softened the blow of Ford’s decision to close its Bridgend plant, with the loss of 1,700 jobs.
The company have said that a new opportunity has opened up in Moselle, France where Mercedes-Benz are selling their Hambach site. Ineos will complete their review in a few weeks.
Chris Elmore MP said:
“The announcement from Ineos about their review into operations at Brocastle is deeply concerning. The timing itself is a major concern, coming amidst the ongoing panic of the pandemic. The stress and worry to workers and their families must be immense.
“To Ineos, I would simply say that turning their backs on their Bridgend plant and the superb workforce there would be a calamity – for the local economy, the community, but also for the company themselves. I urge them to reconsider.”
