Chris Elmore, MP for Ogmore, has called for scammers who try to exploit vulnerable people during the Coronavirus pandemic to face the full force of the law. Speaking during Health Questions in the House of Commons, Elmore urged the UK Government to take action to ensure that criminals attempting to scam people out of money under the pretence of providing an NHS Covid-19 test should face prosecution.
Chris Elmore MP said:
“It beggars belief that cruel scammers are seeking to take advantage of some of the most vulnerable people in the UK during a global pandemic. But sadly, we know that criminals are cold calling and persuading people to hand over their bank details in the name of the NHS Test and Trace service. These crooks behind these scams should face the full force of the law when they are caught.
“Constituents should remember: NHS Test and Trace will never ask you to give them your bank details, and they will not call you from a withheld number.”
